Why You Get Dark Eye Circles

August 12th, 2008

Cosmetologists have long been aware of the fact that some people are just susceptible to dark “bags” under their eyes. But getting rid of this often hereditary condition is easier than most would think- it just takes a little ingenuity and determination to get one’s skin looking its best.

The majority of society associates dark skin under the eyes with lack of sleep. And in this case, they are usually right- lack of sleep is one of the leading causes of this condition. If you find yourself too busy to find sleep, try to take naps here and there when there are down times in your schedule. Not doing so may lead to poor blood circulation and a worse discoloration.

Allergens or simply having the wrong genes can also contribute to dark circles under one’s eyes. The condition is considered to be hereditary, in which case there isn’t much to cure in one’s own daily routine. Allergens and certain deficiencies of some vitamins can also contribute to this phenomenon, in which case a doctor should be visited for more information.

The best way to get treatment for this condition is to do it while you sleep! Apply a face mask full of vitamins, chemicals, and special wraps can make the skin glow and shine each morning when one wakes up. If things still aren’t back to normal after a few days, try using cucumber slices- these have been proven to increase skin color in a positive way.

Tea bags have also been known to contain tannin, which has shown similar effects as cucumber slices. If a cucumber isn’t handy, try to find a tea mixture with tannin and apply the mixture under one’s eyes with a damp cloth or rag. Leave the cloth for optimal results so that the tannin can soak into the skin for best efficiency. If you aren’t comfortable with leaving the mixture overnight, 10-15 minutes should be plenty of time to absorb the materials.

If one has access to vitamin K, which is in most types of beneficial skin creams, it should be applied under the eyes on a daily basis. Another common cause of dark circles under the eye is the lack of vitamin K, in which apply a cream will return the vitamin K levels back to normal. Most people see a significant difference in skin discoloration from this solution alone.

In Conclusion

As we can see dark circles under your eyes aren’t threatening in the least. Regardless, they may be a sign of something more serious- in which case a doctor should be visited if they stay for two or more weeks even after treatment is made. After all, it is best to be safe than sorry!
